LEARN TO FLY IN THE BEAUTIFUL ROCKY MOUNTAINS!

Western Air Flight Academy is the premier flight-training center in Colorado. Conveniently located at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport in Broomfield, we offer a top quality training experience in a safe and welcoming environment. What makes us so special?

We are a 14 CFR Part 141 flight school. This is an FAA Certified program that clearly outlines the scope and sequence of cirrus Colorado flight schoolsyour flight training. By following this curriculum, you can move more quickly through all of your ratings and become a career pilot. Cirrus aircraft are included in our Part 141 curriculum.

We are the only Metro airport flight school with a Part 135 on demand charter certificate featuring our new 180 Kt CIRRUS SR-22 aircraft.

Our staff includes a former 747/767 Continental Airline Captain who can help you toward your goal of flying for the airlines.

The Western Air Staff represents just over 180 years and nearly 100,000 hours of flight experience. Drawing from our pool of experience helps you to shorten the average time it takes to get your pilot's license. At Western Air Flight Academy, a top priority is the safety and reliability of our planes; we take the time and effort to be sure we exceed all safety standards.

Private Pilot Course

In the early 1950's, the FAA set the minimum requirement for a Private Pilot Certification at 40 hours of total time. Back then, we could have never envisioned the technology that is now available. With the refinement of navigational equipment and radios, and the dramatic increases in airspace traffic the national average now hovers close to 75 total hours.
Private Pilot
At Western Air Flight Academy, we pride ourselves in helping our students become private pilots in the shortest time possible for them. Because our instructors are generally more experienced, we are often able to reduce the necessary training time. Additionally, our AST300 simulator can help students sharpen their skills on those days when the weather is not cooperating.

To receive a Private Pilot Certification, a student must be at least 17 years of age, speak English, and be able to secure a 3rd class medical certificate or higher. The total cost of flight training will depend on the individual students aptitude, the frequency of the training, and any possible delays beyond the control of the student or Western Air. Private Pilot Course is FAR 141 Approved.

Instrument Pilot Course

An instrument rating isn't just for those pilots operating in foggy climates. Any time a pilot sets out on a flight, there is a chance that weather will change unexpectedly. Being able to control an aircraft by instrument references alone may save your life. The convenience of filing an instrument flight plan and climbing over a layer of clouds into the sunshine pays off enormously. Even on a clear day, the value of having a positive clear traffic space around you is comforting and the FAA Air Traffic Control system will provide that for you! Instrument Rating Course is FAR 141 Approved.

Commercial Pilot Course

A commerCommercial Pilotcial rating allows a pilot to charge for his services. A "complex" aircraft must be used for training. That is, one with retractable landing gear, controllable pitch/constant speed propeller, and flaps. Further, an instrument rating is required for the commercial license with no limitations. The student may take the commercial practical test by holding a Third Class Medical certificate, but must have a Second Class Medical in order to exercise privileges of the commercial pilot.

Certified Flight Instructor Course

There is no greater pleasure than to share your experience and expertise with others. Becoming a flight iFlight Instructornstructor is the ultimate sharing, as the joy of flight is given to the next person, and the next generation. Flight instructors can look forward to seeing their students dust crops, rescue a fisherman at sea, fly their families out to dinner, or even join NASA and fly to the skies.

Mountain Flying Course

Many shy away from the spectacular opportunity to see and enjoy the Rocky Mountains by airplane. This unique course covers everything you need to know to fly safely throughout high terrain and steep canyons of many western states. The techniques, tips and reminders teach Rocky Mountain Flyingyou to manage the potential dangers in a confident way.
The course spans a day and half, with eight hours in the classroom and five hours of flight. Your flight time will offer you the chance to land at the highest airport in North America, to review obscured, inclined and one-way runways, and obstructed valley airports. You will learn mountain procedures, density altitude, mountain weather, aircraft performance, weight and balance, and survivability.

Flight Simular
Equip: Our advanced flight simulator can be used to reduce training costs and is especially useful for instrument flight training. Training is also enhanced as the instructor can temporarily stop the "flight" in order to provide further insights that might be otherwise lost if the student was busy in actual flight. Once you have been checked out in its operation, our simulator can also be used without an instructor to maintain proficiency without the higher costs of aircraft rental.

And Our Student Focused Environment!

Not only do we have the experienced instructors, top notch training airplanes, but we also have an environment that is generally not found at most flight schools: One you enjoy will enhance your overall training experience.

You have goals and dreams, and we have the skill, dedication and facilities to make it all happen. Come fly with us and change your life .. forever!
