ATP, Embry Riddle, ASA, Pan Am Flight Academy.... There are practically hundreds of options as to which flight school you can pay upwards of $70,000 for and supposedly have a first officer position with a regional carrier or even a major airliner upon successful completion. Many of these schools claim that you can complete the courses and have a job within one year.

This all seems very suspicious to me, and I would really appreciate some clarification from some of you who have maybe been down this route to fly professionally.

If this is for real, which schools are suggested or recomended? I appreciate the replies!!!

My best suggestion would be to look into companies that actually train the pilots they hire. you'll have to forgive me i'm at work currently and do not have an advertisement ready, i do know there are a few out there that do this type of training. keep your eyes open for these places. normally these are your best bets for getting a decent start in aviation. if i could go back and do it over again i would take this route.

That's a good questions, the answer is complicated.  It depends on the job market, your skills and personallity.

Bottom line is NO ONE can promise you a job really.  It depends more on YOU than the ads they run.  I think the problem is that I have seen people get jobs with 500 hours and some get jobs with 2000 hours.

I would not plan on 1 year in the current airline climate.  I would plan on 2-3 years.  Then if you get a job in 1 year you will be surprised and happy.

I know this is not the answer you might want, but I think it is the best I personally can do - maybe someone elses knows more.

I am currently scouring a lot of the Flying Schools advertised on the Net.

Its my desire to go from Zero to Airline Pilot, full time.

I can see some of the schools have the 'latest technology'  and 'glass cockpits'.  If i cut out all the arty farty nonesense,  does anybody know of any good flying schools that arent gonna charge me the earth.

I do have a budget to work to and may possibly have to get myself a part time job, depending on the costs of my course.

Are there any particular parts of the states that arent as expensve to live in?

The good news about flying is that a pilot certificate is the same and the quality of the training is generally the same because we all have to pass the same test.
 
I live in the Nashville area and the cost of living is fine here.

Topdocbhalla, in canada i would recommend moncton flight college ( www.mfc.nb.ca ) they have a great reputation as one of the best schools in the country and offer a various array of different flying situations.

To be exact, after upwards of $70K you are not guaranteed a job! ONLY AN INTERVIEW WITH THEIR AFFILIATE AIRLINES. Those airlines will be regionals, NOT majors too.

Another case of Shiny Jet Syndrome? ANY of those flying schools that promise an airline career from zero time will be expensive. Read $60-80K expensive for a job that starts out at $18K/mo (that's IF you pass their 'guaranteed interview and get hired). I hope you have a very generous budget with lots of financial aid that you do not have to pay back or you will be burdens for decades trying to pay off a loan for such a school. (There are many in the business who don't respect 400 hour pilots that 'bought their job' either.) Take a gander of the messages at www.jetcareers.com for more on zero time to airline acadamies.
