Hi,
I have been exploring possible career choices recently and would appreciate any information that anyone can give me. For most of my life I had planned on being a Truck driver. Unfortunately I recently found out after my fathers passing from lung cancer that he didn't want that for me after the experiences of his 43 year trucking career and I want to do something with my life that would truly make him proud. I started my interest in aviation at about 10 when I fist visited the Grisom airforce base air show one year. Early last year I purchased Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator but just didn't get the thrill that I was Expecting from it. Sure the battles where were exhilarating but there where no large planes like the Boeing 737, 777, or 747 so I purchased The Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 Century of Flight 4 CD pack. Once I started playing I was hooked. I am now persuing all the information that I can Get about a career in aviation. I know that I am still not of the right age but I think that I am getting kind of close (hopefully only a year or two away) I want to get information on what all I can do in aviation, what the age requirements are for different types of training, approximate cost, and if I am still a few years off from being able to start any type of training what types of upgrades can I get for my computer software and where do I get it. I am from North Central Indiana, Alexandria to be exact, and I am 15. I greatly appreciate your help and will check the site regularly. If anyone would like to communicate to me through other means besides this site you can also contact me at jakojohnston@aol.com  jjj_3xj_1991@yahoo.com or through my landscaping companies web site at www.freewebs.com/jakojohnston If you try the website it could take a while for me to get the message. Thank you

Since this is a couple months old, you may have already heard about (and purchased) the newest "cream-of-the-crop" software...Microsoft Flight X.  It is a very nice and highly graphical program that will really keep you flying until you can start you training.

Speaking of starting your training...you can solo an aircraft at age 16 but you have to be 17 in order to get your private pilot's license.  From this point you will get your Instrument Rating and once you are 18 your Commercial certificate.  At this point the age limitations slow down and you can become a flight instructor and start building your flight time.

The only other age limitation you will need to know is that of the ATP certificate.  This is usually held by airline or charter captains...and something that you can let the airline train you for, unless you just want to get a head start.

Good luck with your training and if you are ever at KFFC, stop by and see if I am there.  Falcon Flyer stands for Falcon Field in Peachtree City, GA.
