I'm probably asking the same question you've heard before.....
What are the odds for a man of 64, getting the schooling financed?
I've always wanted to fly all my life.  The price kept getting larger, and larger, so I better jump now huh...
Everybody thinks I'm in my 40's because I get around like a younger man...
Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks,

Gene

Hi Gene,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for the great question!

It would make sense that a flight training finance company would say YES to you on approved credit. My guess is that they would say yes as long as this would be for recreation and not career training.

The reason is that it would take $40,000 to $70,000 for career training and your first 5 years salaries are pretty low and its hard to pay back loans. And employment options are limited because of the "age 60" rule with the FAA at the moment.

However, for fun and recreation if you have the credit history you could borrow $5K - $8K and be a pilot.

Many of us have the same issue by the way.

Also you might consider "Sport Pilot" if you are looking to do this for fun, that's what I am doing Smiley
