I checked with the local flight clubs, and they don't allow student pilots unfortunately. Good news is though, once I'm taking my lessons through the college i'm going to in August, I'll be in a fraternity that is specific to pilots throughout the country, and they are the ones who manage the fleet at the university.

Where are you at along your path to your Private Pilot certification? What have you learned so far that you would pass on to others? What advise would you give to the rest of us? Something that may help us all!

Welcome! I'm in the midwest and new myself. Right here in the middle of Kansas, in fact. We have airports all over the place if you ever fly here. I'm beginning the long haul to becoming an airline pilot. I'll look forward to hearing about your adventures

I like the idea of getting more things started in other cities as well. Kansas City is pretty nice, and we have a great airport that is literally right next to downtown, and 10 minutes from everything. We also have about 4 other small airports scattered across the metro.

IMPORTANT!!!: Yes, flight schools provide insurance. HOWEVER- Those also often times have a large deductible that could still leave you responsible for $5000 or more! SO I've learned it definitely pays to purchase your own insurance which may have $100-$500 deductibles for about $250 per year.

Starting Out / Choosing a flight School / Re: Learn in Piper Tomahawk or C172?

I agree with the last post. I've now flown a piper warrior and a cessna 172, and I like them both. Overall I liked the way the piper handled in wind and landings, while I liked the Cessna for takeoffs and power. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. One thing I also liked with the high-wing is that you don't have to worry about fuel pumps that the piper has.
