I checked with the local flight clubs, and they don't allow student pilots unfortunately. Good news is though, once I'm taking my lessons through the college i'm going to in August, I'll be in a fraternity that is specific to pilots throughout the country, and they are the ones who manage the fleet at the university.

Where are you at along your path to your Private Pilot certification?  What have you learned so far that you would pass on to others?  What advise would you give to the rest of us?  Something that may help us all!

Welcome! I'm in the midwest and new myself. Right here in the middle of Kansas, in fact. We have airports all over the place if you ever fly here. I'm beginning the long haul to becoming an airline pilot. I'll look forward to hearing about your adventures

I like the idea of getting more things started in other cities as well.  Kansas City is pretty nice, and we have a great airport that is literally right next to downtown, and 10 minutes from everything. We also have about 4 other small airports scattered across the metro.

I'd like to fly a commercial flight there!!!  But I suppose I'm not trained well enough to do that yet...

Yeah, sounds like you are going a cheaper/better route!

There only seems to be 4-5 people posting on here right now. Good luck with everything!

I doubt anyone around me will be flying in there. I'm in Kansas.

Anyone know of any that are coming up in the next few months?
11  Starting Out / General Discussion and Introductions / What type of pilot are you or are you going to be? on: January 11, 2008, 12:43:42 pm
Since we're all sharing and getting to know eachother, what kind of pilot are you now, and how far do you want to go?  My plan is to go the distance: I want to fly in the Boeing/Airbus airline/freight areas.  I know it will take lots of hours and lots of hard work, and maybe even some military time, but I'm willing to do it!
12  Starting Out / The Flight Training Forum / Re: Pilot Exam Learning DVD's on: January 10, 2008, 11:15:18 am
My flight school offers DVDs and VHS that we may check out. They also had a website we could contact to rent DVDs from for ground school info. Something you may want to look into thats cheaper.
13  Starting Out / All About Airplanes / Re: Do student pilots need insurance for anything? on: January 10, 2008, 11:02:25 am
IMPORTANT!!!: Yes, flight schools provide insurance. HOWEVER- Those also often times have a large deductible that could still leave you responsible for $5000 or more! SO I've learned it definitely pays to purchase your own insurance which may have $100-$500 deductibles for about $250 per year.

WOW!!! I paid $60 for mine.  That proves it pays to shop around!
15  Starting Out / Choosing a flight School / Re: Learn in Piper Tomahawk or C172? on: January 10, 2008, 10:58:40 am
I agree with the last post. I've now flown a piper warrior and a cessna 172, and I like them both.  Overall I liked the way the piper handled in wind and landings, while I liked the Cessna for takeoffs and power.  They both have their advantages and disadvantages.  One thing I also liked with the high-wing is that you don't have to worry about fuel pumps that the piper has.
