I never thought about it that way mike. I always make sure students look as far out as they can. The closer in people look, the more amplified the movements are

Hi Michael:

You might want to check your local career days. A lot of times they will show up there trying to recruit people.

I am pretty sure the police forces will require you to be on the street for four years or so. A long time ago I looked into the DEA and they wanted you on the street first.

You are young enough that you have plenty of options

You have probably found a lot of info since you posted this.

Hi Chad:

Looks like you are at least getting the brain thinking. There are many options that don't go the route of the commercial airlines.

I personally work on my own and make $45 per hour and I am booked up. I have been around for 20 years so I have made plenty of mistakes.

Just think about anything that uses airplanes. You may end up getting your own plane somewhere down the road but there are things out there that most people don't think about.

traffic watches
flying pipelines
crop dusting
Homeland security is even using general aviation.
In metropolitan areas there is a lot of talk about "Air TAXI's"
There is alwasy flight instructing
forrest service
DEA
Power line watching

You might be supprized to find out that the company you work for has planes monitoring cable lines. I don't know

I would just look around for a niche you can get into once you have a commercial pilot certificate and then run with it.

let me know if you have any other questions

6  Starting Out / Choosing a flight School / Re: Flight Safety Academy on: December 07, 2007, 06:23:37 pm
Hello:

Now with the pilot shortage you will be fine with a degree you will be ahead of many people.

The main thing I tell people who are looking at flying for the airlines is to get out and meet people. It is more Who You know than anything. So go out to the airport on a saturday and just poke around for the day and see who you can meet.

Hope that helps

Hello:

Personally I like Cessna's but this boils down to personal preference. I would take an intro flight in each and see what plane you like better.

Hello:

I have to agree with the above post. If an instructor was stupid enough to scare you on your first flight, find someone else. Even on your intro flight, YOU Should have been flying the airplane not the instructor. Every intro flight I do, I let the student fly the entire flight

Be glad to help you out
