Currently 21 and a student @ Florida State University.  Today I went up for my first DEMO run which laste half an hour.  I am interested in earning a private license.  Ready and willing I am asking the most affordable way to go about the training process.  I understand it's expensive however, $300 off the bat for the Cessna DVD/CD-ROM and then $500 for a block package of flying.

My question really is--Do I need to spend $300 on this program? Are there books that will do it for me? Or do people resell this on ebay/forums?

I would definatly recommend checking out sites like ebay and the such. Also take a gander at book stores on-line, and pilot supply stores, sometimes you find all you need in the range of 5-6 hundred. For me, i was lucky the school i attended arranged its own material and sold it to us at a great rate in a bundle at the start of the course. The best piece of advise i would offer is never settle on a price because its offered directly to you, look as far as you can and make sure you get the best possible options. Either way best of luck in your pursuit! I'm sure you'll be a welcomed addition to the skies!
