Title: Career Change, but mildly color blind! :'(
Post by: Daniel A on June 12, 2007, 11:18:34 pm
Well I am currently going to a somewhat local school to obtain my private... I had my first solo last Sunday by the way in a Cessna 172 sp!  =D  I have about 18.5 total hours logged and am well on my way to nailing this thing....

I want to do this for a living.  I currently work in IT for a real estate company, and while it is good money, and not a bad job by all means... It's not fulfilling.  The fluorescent lights and corporate culture, the mentality of most of the people, and the lack of adventure have all made my decision very easy...  I can't see myself being in my 30's and still doing this.  (I am almost 23)     And while I believe that you are never too old to go for something new, I am certainly more than young enough to take risks and go for something I love... I also like the idea of a different schedule... working 5 dull days a week is definitely not my style...  My only setback is this damn restriction on my medical certificate.  "Not valid for night flight or by color signal control." I can tell all of the main colors apart with no problem.  I am confident that my case is very minor... Red, Green, Amber, White... no problem to me.  I can even see some of the numbers in the test palette's, just not all...  Everyone tells me to try to get a SODA, but I don't know where to go... Everyone tells me to get one but who do I contact to do that???  I already wrote a letter to the FAA, but I don't know what's going on with that.  Right now I have a 2 year degree in IT.  I would like to continue that to a 4 yr degree while working for a regional if feasible...  USVC looks like it has a good program for people like me.  Was also looking at ATP Flight School to get my airline training after I build the required 85 hours on my own time (and money out of pocket instead of a loan)...

Given my situation, do you all think I have a chance at living my dream?

Try the ME that you got your Medical with. You are going to have to work with one anyway to get it resloved. There are a lot of specialized ME out there that go out of their way to help you.
