You’ve got your head in the clouds. We’ve got airplanes. It’s a winning combination at LeTourneau University. If you’ve been searching for a way to transform your fascination with airplanes into a career, search no more. Whether you want to be a commercial airline pilot, production engineer, missionary pilot, flight instructor, aviation manager or aircraft maintenance technician, we can help fulfill your dreams. We provide superior instruction in a structured environment, producing professional pilots, aviation professionals and technicians who are highly competent, possess personal integrity and honor God in all areas of their lives.

What Can I Do With My Degree?

  • Airline pilot
  • Systems engineer
  • Missionary pilot
  • Maintenance supervisor
  • Corporate pilot
  • Missionary maintenance specialist
  • Military pilot
  • Technical representative
  • Aircraft technician with airline or in corporate aviation
  • Technical illustrator

Companies that have hired LeTourneau aeronautical science graduates include American Airlines, American Eagle, Cessna Aircraft Company, Continental Airlines, Continental Express, Dynamic Aviation, Duncan Aviation, Raytheon, Raytheon E-Systems, Rockwell Collins and SkyWest Airlines. Some of our graduates also serve with missionary aviation organizations
such as JAARS, MAF and AIM-AIR.

Which Degree Is Right For Me?

Aeronautical Science, B.S. has several concentrations:

Flight Science

If you want to learn to fly, this is the way to go. Our flight degree concentrations will prepare you for an exciting career as a professional pilot. The professional flight concentration leads to the commercial multi-engine certificate and will prepare you for a career flying an airliner or a corporate jet. Students in the flight science concentration earn their commercial multiengine certificate in addition to the airframe and powerplant mechanic certificate.

  • Professional Flight
  • Flight Science
  • Aircraft Systems Science

More interested in how aircraft work? Then check out our aircraft systems program. This program will lead to certification as an aircraft technician (A&P mechanic certificate). But you may also combine this strong technical education with other areas of interest like electrical engineering technology, business and computer science.

  • Electronic Systems
  • Mechanical Systems
  • Technical Management
  • Design Technology
  • Aircraft Systems
  • Computer Science

Facilities

We have three aeronautical science buildings on campus that house our state-of-the-art equipment. Our simulations lab offers eight computers equipped with specialized controls and flight simulation software. The Frasca full-cockpit training devices are also used extensively to enhance our flight training.

We have a computer-based training lab with the same specialized software used by the airlines to train their own technicians and pilots. At LeTourneau, you will have access to turbine engines that you will disassemble and reassemble. And you’ll learn how to use the latest composite materials.

If that’s not enough, you’ll also work on actual airplanes that are used only for aviation maintenance training. A King Air, Saberliner, Cessna 310, Piper Arrow and an American Eurocopter A-Star helicopter are all located on campus for this purpose.

LeTourneau University owns its own hangar at East Texas Regional Airport, which houses all the flight instructors’ offices and our fleet of airplanes.

We own 11 airplanes including:

  • Six Cessna 172Rs (single engine, purchased new in 2003)
  • Two Bellanca Citabrias (tail wheel, single engine)
  • Two Beech Duchesses (multi-engine)
  • One Piper Lance (high performance single engine)

Why LeTourneau?

  • Our students are our number one priority.
  • You will be able to earn your commercial, multi-engine pilot certificate with an instrument rating. Flight instructor certificates and ratings up through multi-engine instrument instructor (MEII) are optional.
  • You can become certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an aircraft maintenance technician (A&P mechanic certificate).
  • Upon graduation from our flight program, you will have approximately 220-240 hours of flight time. Of that, 50 hours will have been spent flying our multi-engine airplanes.
  • We’re proud of our exceptional safety record. Safety is one of our highest priorities.
  • Our flight training facility is located at East Texas Regional Airport in Longview, conveniently located about eight miles from campus. With a 10,000-foot runway, this towered airport offers a perfect training environment.
  • The airport isn’t heavily congested; our airplanes make up 40 percent of the air traffic, which means more efficient use of training time for students.
  • Professionalism is highly stressed. (Professional dress is required when flying.)
  • Students who hold an A&P mechanic certificate may gain experience by working in LeTourneau’s flight hangar.
  • Our aircraft are clean and well-maintained.
  • Cross-country flights are part of the flight curriculum and you’ll have the opportunity to fly into Dallas - Ft. Worth International Airport, one of the largest in the nation.
  • With our temperate East Texas climate, nearly every day is a good flying day at LeTourneau. Student Opportunities
  • Some of our top aviation students are members of the precision flight team that competes against students from the nation’s elite aviation programs in the National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) competitions.
  • Male aviation students are invited to become members of LeTourneau Aviation Society, also called Lambda Alpha Sigma (LAS). This society has the unity of a fraternity, but is Christian-based, subscribing to the mission and values of the university.
  • Take a break from your studies to compete against fellow LeTourneau students at the annual flight competition. Modeled after the NIFA competition, you can earn prizes by winning contests that test your skills.
