Arizona State University PictureAbout the Department of Aeronautical Management Technology

The Department of Aeronautical Management Technology (AMT) offers undergraduate and comprehensive graduate programs that combine academic studies and professional flight and aviation training. Situated at ASU's Polytechnic campus and adjacent to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in Mesa, Arizona, the AMT Department provides students with a solid foundation that prepares them for employment in major and regional airlines, general and corporate aviation, and the military. The Professional Flight and Air Transportation Management programs are accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), formerly the Council on Aviation Accreditation.

Examples of our innovative programs and training include:

  • Airline Bridge Training, which was developed with flight provider Mesa Pilot Development and Mesa Air Group, one of the largest regional airlines in the country, to train those students seriously interested in becoming professional airline pilots.
  • Air Traffic Management, which prepares students for a career as an Air Traffic Controller.
  • Air Transportation Management, which prepares students for positions such as air carrier manager, airport manager and general aviation operations manager.
  • Altitude Chamber, which provides invaluable experience for students interested in the human factors related to high-altitude activities.

  • Master of Science in Technology, which provides students with technical and professional skills for use in leadership positions in industry and education.

The year-round flying weather in the Valley of the Sun creates the best flying environment in the country. Combine that with programs that stay on the cutting edge of aviation science and technology, and you have a learning experience second to none.

Explore your future in aviation with an Aeronautical Management Technology degree from ASU.

The Professional Flight program at Arizona State University uses a mixture of up-to-date curriculum and in-air flight training. Certified under FAA Part 141 certification, the program’s emphasis on airline training is it’s capstone.

The unique theoretical program uses an integrated learning model which incorporates personal computer-based flight simulator programs, including multi-engine flight simulators. With an emphasis on the technical, management and computer-related applications necessary to operate in the high-density, complex modern airspace environment, the program demands critical thinking and cognitive, analytical and communicative skills.

Throughout the program, students will participate in seminars to explore career opportunities and industry trends. At the conclusion of their studies, students can apply for both flying and non-flying internships within the aviation industry.

The course work was developed with assistance from the Industry Resource Group, which holds as members aviation leaders from across the country.

The AMT (Aeronautical Management Technology) Department strives to maintain their position as an academic leader in aeronautical management technology by giving their students a high quality education in numerous concentrations in the aviation field by:

  • Building the graduate program to attract top-quality students with increased research opportunities.
  • developing an up-to-date aeronautical theoretical educational curriculum;
  • contracting a top-quality flight provider associated with a major airline;
  • recruiting and retaining quality faculty with industry credentials and active research agendas;
  • obtaining state-of-the-art flight line facilities;
  • obtaining airline quality flight simulator and flight training devices;
  • developing industry partnerships to provide internships and other career opportunities for students;
  • developing an interdisciplinary aeronautical management program; and
